Strong new releases had the Blu-ray market share up a little to 14% and revenue up 50% to $30.62M for the week ending March 7th, according to Home Media Magazine.
The top seller was easily the big budget disaster epic 2012 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
New releases took second and third places also, with Where the Wild Things Are from Warner Home Video and Ponyo from Disney and Studio Ghibli.
The top 5 was rounded out by Oscar winner The Hurt Locker from Summit and X-Men Origins: Wolverine from Fox Hone Entertainment.
Law Abiding Citizen from Anchor Bay is still doing well in 6th position.
On the per title market share side, 2012 did extremely well for Blu-ray with 41% market share on Blu-ray Disc in its first week.
Where the Wild Things Are also had strong sales with 28% market share while Ponyo did even better with 34% Blu-ray market share.
The Hurt Locker was also in the same range with 28% of its sales on Blu-ray Disc.
New DVD release Curious George 2: Follow that Monkey from Universal pushed things in the other direction with no Blu-ray Disc version available.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs from Fox was the big Blu-ray winner for the week though, with 60% market share on Blu-ray Disc, no doubt due to promotional pricing.
