Kate Beckinsale’s latest movie hit Blu-ray January 19th with the Warner Home Video release of Whiteout.

The movie is set in Antarctica, one of the coldest and most remote locations on the planet, and the cold, stormy environment is almost a character in the film.

I actually watched the movie just after returning from a ski trip where we faced some pretty rough weather ourselves, which made Continue reading »

My favourite new movie so far on Blu-ray this year is Moon, released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on January 12th, 2010.

It is hard to categorize this movie – perhaps it is a kind of science fiction mystery thriller.

Sam Bell is the sole inhabitant on the far side of the moon, running a mining operation that supplies clean energy back to Earth.

His only companion is the computer named GERTY, Continue reading »

In 2009 The Simpsons finally shifted to hidef production, which led to the January 12th Blu-ray Disc release of The Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season from Fox Home Entertainment.

The Simpsons is one of the longest running television shows, featuring a ‘typical’ dysfunctional family that hasn’t aged over the 20 years of episodes.

One of the reasons that the show has lasted so Continue reading »

The Blu-ray market share was 12% with a revenue of $18.94M for the week ending January 17th, according to Home Media Magazine.

While this seems kind of where we were ‘last year’, due to changes in the way market share is calculated, it is actually up a couple of points.

Revenue is up almost 80% over last year, which is a nice year over year rise.

I was a little surprised to see that the Continue reading »
