One of my favourite new comedies hit Blu-ray this month, with the December 15th release of The Hangover from Warner Home Video.

The film follows friends who go to Las Vegas for their best friend’s bachelor party, only to wake up the next morning not remembering a thing and missing the groom.

Not only that, but the suite is a mess, there is a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet, one guy Continue reading »

Hi folks. Hope you are all enjoying your holidays – I am having a nice relaxing time out of town – hence the lack of activity on the blog.

2009 was a busy year for me and no doubt the down economy has touched many – while income for the site from purchase commissions is down, I do want to thank all the folks that use the Amazon, Best Buy and other links when making their purchases.

While I don’t Continue reading »

Christmas came early this year from Fox Home Entertainment, with the release of Miracle On 34th Street and the 1994 John Hughes remake of Miracle On 34th Street on October 6th, 2009.

The movie is a classic Christmas story, where the Kris Kringle character claims to be the real Santa Claus and faces a court case to prove that he is not.

This heartwarming story is set in New York and strongly features Continue reading »

Harry Potter fans are no doubt thrilled with the December 8th Blu-ray release of the most recent movie in the series – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from Warner Home Video.

Perhaps needless to say, this movie is based on the 6th book in the incredibly popular series authored by J.K. Rowling.

In this latest movie edition, Harry finds a potion text book with additions and enhancements for the Continue reading »

The Blu-ray market share for the week ending December 13th was 14%, for a new record Blu-ray Disc revenue – just a fraction short of $80M – according to Home Media Magazine.

Certainly $79.86M revenue is not to be sniffed at, up 70% over last year for the same week.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from Warner easily took 1st place in the chart, selling almost four times the 2nd placed Public Continue reading »

Good news for fans of high quality 3D presentations – the Blu-ray Disc Association has announced that they have finalized the specification for titles in 3D on the Blu-ray format.

The specification requires 3D video to employ the Multiview Video Coding (MVC) codec, which is essentially an extension of the H.264/AVC codec.

MPEG4-MVC compresses both left and right eye images with roughly a 50% overhead Continue reading »

A new image gallery for the Harry Potter Live Community Screening is now online for your viewing pleasure.

Folks who missed the screening can get an idea as to the questions asked and answered.

I thought it was interesting that this live chat was a lot less technical than previous ones, perhaps due to the main actor being the key speaker.

So look for questions about Daniel’s favourite Christmas Continue reading »
